Believe In Yourself & I Will Believe In You

Some people notice that the holiday season depresses them to no end. Others deal with increased stress at their workplaces, concerns about money, or genuine fears about doing well on final exams as this semester or quarter comes to an end. As we look forward to the promise of another new year in just a few short weeks, my goal is to bestow some motivation upon anyone who may need it at the present time. I'm here to tell you that as long as you believe in yourself, I will believe in you. Read More...

Canadian graduate's story about NCLEX RN

I just want to say thank you for all your wishes and guess what, I passed my nclex with 75 questions. I think the reason I passed was not because of doing question, its because I was confident and had sound knowledge on pathophisiology. I am from canada and recently graduated and had recently wrote canadian exam for the 2nd time and passed. Just a small story about my canadian exam...it is very different from nclex. I knew that I have good knowledge on pathophisiology and I know that I am a good student when it comes to the content. After failing the canadian exam, I was so devastated. Indeed, it made me question again and again about choosing nursing as a career because I was always inclined towards medicine and had a dream of becoming a doctor ever since I was a child. A very positive clinical experience

So often we all read about nasty experiences as many people have the need to vent about bad clinical experiences, and I understand that. I want to share a very positive experience with you. On my second to last clinical day as a student (I am graduating), I had a very nice older lady who was in for pneumonia and some co-morbidities. She was a tough bird who acted quite gruff and self assured. She told me she worked full time and "wanted to get back to her work ASAP". Read More...

I recently to the kaplan pre entrance exam for the second time and while my was fairly well for some reason the science section is really throwing me off.I studied the study book even looked over my A&P book but I feel that the questions on the test are WAY more in depth and specific than what the study book goes over. Resume Writing for the Transitioning Professional

So not all of us knew from day one that we wanted to be nurses. Some of us decided to take the scenic route to the career (there is a great article on this here on The Nursing Niche. This route can leave someone feeling a bit behind when it comes to experience, and this feeling only intensifies when it comes to putting this experience on paper for our resume. Read More...

Advice for a new nursing student?

I have recently been accepted into the nursing program at Brenau University and I am very eager to start in January. I was wondering if anyone had any advice they could give to a new nursing student. I want to be as successful as I can and learn as much as possible. Unfortunately, I do not have a job in the medical field nor do I have any friends or family I can ask advice from. Read More...

What is the one thing that turns your stomach?

Surely everyone has at least one thing that they can't handle. Maybe you can do blood and guts and poo, but the smell of pee gets you? What is the one thing that messes you up? Did you know going in to school that it was going to be your weakness, or were you surprised when you ran out of the room the first time? Read More...

Graphic Pictorial Warning Labels on Cigarettes Most Effective

Pictorial health warning labels on cigarette packages are effective in reaching adult smokers with low health literacy, with graphic images having the most pronounced effect on all adult smokers, according to a study published online Nov. 13 in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

James F. Thrasher, Ph.D., of the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and colleagues evaluated pictorial health warning labels in a study involving 207 adult smokers who were exposed to text-only labels and 774 smokers who were exposed to pictorial labels. Health warning labels were varied by health topic and image type. Read More...

Question about Bedside Manner

I am a student about to enter a nursing program, and I am worried about my bedside manner. Most of my classmates are outgoing and always friendly, while I am more reserved and somewhat socially awkward. Sometimes I feel I say the wrong things and unintentionally offend people. I also feel weird touching people, such as a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. I have actually practiced this with my family members without them knowing I was doing so, and each time it felt so unnatural and/or timing and placement of my hand was off. I feel that a big part of nursing is making the patients feel comfortable, being caring and showing compassion. I do care about and want to help people, but I am shy and don’t always show it. I was wondering if this is something I will “learn” in the nursing program or if maybe I should think about working in the OR, where I don’t have to socially interact with patients. Read More...

Unbelievable exam question

I took a nursing exam today and on this exam, there was a question that was pretty incredible. I got the question right, but I was pretty infuriated that my instructor defended the validity of this exam question. I won't give you the exact question, but here is a replica of question's structure... Read More...
